Running a good tournament is fickle sometimes. My normal tournament date is the first Saturday of the month. However, I've had to have it on the second Saturday for the past four months because of other schedule conflicts -- and this causes me to lose many of my regular players. I was expecting a big crowd -- probably around 40 players. But with only an hour before the tournament start, only 25 players had committed, while many others had cancelled. Yet as strange as it may sound, 41 people showed up by game time.
Overall, we had 41 players, 124 buy-ins for a total of $6200 in the prize
pool. After expenses, that paid over $2000 for 1st, $1200 for 2nd,
and down to $100 for 8th.
As fate would have it, last month's bounty didn't show up and that makes the $50
bounty on me. Since the bad beat jackpot has been hit every month for the past
four, I had to increase the qualifying hands from any full house cracked by a
higher hand, to 8's full cracked by a higher hand. Yet in spite of this
increase, the bad beat jackpot was hit again during this tournament. The jackpot
was hit when pocket-3's of Ricardo Fuentes went all-in against pocket Jacks of
Eric Salilnas, and the board flopped 999 -- thus giving both players a
qualifying full house. Ricardo won $68 and Eric won $37.
The $50 high hand was won by David-J with quad jacks, and $50 was awarded to the
aces cracked of Trent Lee.
During the rebuy period, there were more bad beats at my table than I can count.
My AK was beat badly by JT with a runner-runner straight. However one hand kept
coming up at my table repeatedly, and it always seemed to hold up: pocket-10's.
I was dealt pocket 10's three times, and each time they held up; same for other
players that I noticed.
I managed to make it to the final table with a resonable chip stack. The payout
schedule called for the top eight places to be paid. However, once we were on
the bubble the action was so slow that all the players decided to take $100 out
of first place, and create a 9th paying place -- thus ensuring that everybody
was in the money.
The players finished in this order:
1st Place | Lang Vo | $1950 |
2nd Place | Daniel Austin | $1200 |
3rd Place | Robert Collins | $750 |
4th Place | Rob Busse | $500 |
5th Place | Lance Lasky | $350 |
6th Place | Mel T | $250 |
7th Place | Scott Balfour | $150 |
8th Place | "Junior" | $100 |
9th Place | Alan Lee | $100 |
Congratulations to everybody who made it to the money.
