Why is this guy such a bonehead?

If you've ever seen a bonehead play before, this one will compete for top honors.  Some people might justify this bad play, but all of the elements of shere stupidity, and all the telltale signs "that you're really, really beat" are also included.

Tonight on PokerStars, I was playing 5/10 Hi/Lo when I was dealt Ad As Jd 3c (AAJ3 single suited). The action is folded to me on the button. I have a monster hand so naturally I raise.

A guy named "igthisone" raises from the small blind. Another guy named "CommishG" calls. Knowing that I have the best hand, I re-raise, and igthisone closes out the action, out of position, by capping the betting. CommishG comes along for the ride.

The flop is: 9h Jc Js -- I flopped 3 of a kind jacks

Igthisone just can't help himself, and bets anyways -- as if this flop actually helped him.

Instead of raising right there, I slow play it because he's already demonstrated a high level of stupidity and his stupidity will no doubt continue to compound itself.

The turn is a Ks. Now it's time to put the hammer down. I bet; he raises, I re-raise, he caps it. Unbeknownst to me, igthisone makes kings full of jacks with that card.

The river is of no consequence, and I bet; he raises, and I simply call, doubtful, but fearful that I'm actually beat.

There are many reasons why his play on this hand was completely atrocious. Some of the reasons may be disagreeable, but when you consider the actual facts, it looks pretty bad.

  1. He was raising out of position pre-flop -- even with a hand like AKK2. After I 3-bet him, he couldn't believe his pocket kings were any good and calling would have been smarter than re-raising to cap the pot out of position.

  2. The flop was absolutely no help to him. But he bet it anyways as if it did. This error compounded his own stupidity.

Certainly he made his hand on the turn, but the multitude of bad pre-flop plays compounded themselves -- until as fate would have it, his own stupidity was bailed out purely by the chance of hitting a 2-outter.

you are an angry poker player. This guy makes poker profitable so you should welcome bonehead's bad play. patience and time and you will profit off his mistakes.

Since it is common for some players to 3 bet with A2xx, when in shorthanded play, like a typical HORSE table, your 3-bet didn't necessarily mean AA to him, so he made it 4 bets of course. And this isn't a bad flop to bluff on, so he leads out, so that maybe you think he has AA, or a J. I would probably raise the flop in most cases to make a draw pay the full price, in case he has A2QT. Of course only a hand with only a possible low would fold the flop raise since the pot is too big to fold for one bet. When the K comes on the turn and he bets out, calling is best, since you are now beaten by a str8, 99, KJ, etc.

Yes, it's always nice to let the boneheads hang themselves, but there are so many unlikely holdings in omaha that you still have to be careful.
