Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why did I choose the name "PencilGeek?"
  • A bunch of years ago, I worked at the very secretive startup company Transmeta.  Right before the Transmeta IPO, I wanted to make some flattering anonymous internet postings concerning information about my place of employment.  However, posting anything about my company -- especially right before the IPO -- was strictly forbidden.  At that time, Intel and a bunch of their (paid?) sycophants were trashing our company and trying to devalue our IPO.  I felt it was vital to fight back, and I took it upon myself to do so.  I had to create an anonymous user-name, and hope it wasn't traceable back to me.  So I thought about it for a moment, and the first thing that came to my mind was that I was working with a bunch of "Pencil-neck-geeks."  That name was too long for a screen login, so I simply shortened it to PencilGeek.  PencilGeek is now used as a login at various chat forums, stock forums, and primarily used for on-line poker playing.
